REDUCE, RECYCLE … REALLY?
Corina Beczner, wedding consultant and founder of Vibrant Events in San Francisco, says, “One reason it’s so nice to be offering green weddings now is because there are finally green products on the market today that meet high sustainability standards while still meeting the high-style aesthetics of some of the hardest brides to please.”

So it is that many of the companies that for years have been dedicated to increasing awareness of green products are currently seeing spirited growth in the wedding sector – and none of it at the cost of lessening the event’s splendor. “It’s fun to make arrangements out of items that can be reused over and over again,” says Sillapere. “I think people are becoming more open to and aware of a wide variety of objects and elements that can be crafted into amazing works of art. Sticks, stones, fruit, nuts, pods, fabric, paper, buttons.”
Gone perhaps is the idea that sustainability necessarily equals paying a high premium, like organic fruit that costs double the price of non-organic. Initially you might pay a little more for an organic tulip, but resourcefulness can stretch that same flower three times the distance. “We've created some gorgeous pieces where every part of a flower is utilized,” says Sillapere. “Stem, foliage, rubberband, paper sleeve, these are all potential ingredients. If a designer challenges him or herself to using all of these items, it will most definitely force a higher level of creativity as well as creating a deeper beauty.”
